The book, Asian Feminisms and Transnational Activism, was conceived as part of the ¡°EGEP BOOK Series¡± and contains selected manuscripts of lectures and speeches by the EGEP faculty which deal with the concept and achievements of ¡°Asian Women¡¯s Studies¡± and feminist issues in the glocal era. Hosted by Ewha Womans University since 2012, EGEP, which is short for ¡°Ewha Global Empowerment Program,¡± is a feminist educational program for women activists in Asia and Africa. In spite of scholarly efforts to draw proper attention to and facilitate proper understanding of it, ¡°Asian Women¡¯s Studies¡± is still generally understood as a ¡°local¡± women¡¯s studies based on a geographical and physical area of Asia. In this book, ¡°Asian Women¡¯s Studies¡± is re-interpreted as a newly-woven feminist theory based on the real lives and experiences of Asian women and as a practical work to challenge oppression against women and make changes on a global level by building an extensive solidarity across national borders. This book consists of two parts with twelve papers. Part I addresses the concept and history of ¡°Asian Women¡¯s Studies,¡± compares the institutionalizing processes of three countries, South Korea, China, and Japan, and attempts to theorize the pedagogy of ¡°Asian Women¡¯s Studies.¡± Part II examines issues of gender politics, sexual violence, reproductive techniques, women¡¯s movements in Asian countries, and explores the possibility of extending transnational feminist solidarity. As the first systematic approach to ¡°Asian Women¡¯s Studies,¡± this book will contribute to deepening the public understanding of ¡°Asian Women¡¯s Studies¡± and help feminist scholars and activists create an Asian Women¡¯s community based on transnational women¡¯s solidarity.
