제4판에서는 독자들이 쉽게 읽고 이해할 수 있는 특징을 유지하면서, 새로운 거시 경제현상을 이해하고 분석하는데 도움이 되는 내용을 추가하였다. 교과서의 본문, 표, 그림 등에서 실제 데이터 수치가 사용되는 경우 모두 가장 최신의 자료로 수정하였다. 7장에서는 인공지능과 로봇과 같은 신기술이 경제 성장과 고용에 미칠 영향을 설명하고 인적자본의 역할에 대해 언급하였다. 8장에서 경기변동을 다루면서 고용 없는 회복을 새로운 사례연구로 포함하였다.
